April A Month On The Road

April 2021 continued like last year but with a slightly bigger bang.
I had started a contract last year shooting for a holiday company capturing holiday cottages and other holiday accommodation for the homestay holiday market.

Ironically the travel industry is one of those hardest hit by the Covid pandemic yet this provided the homestay U.K market with a huge boost for demand.

The past 4 weeks have turned out to be been very busy with me clocking up well over 2 thousand miles on my travels and shooting huge amounts of images.
In between, I’ve also been busy finishing off a video production for another client so juggling the two has been at times interesting!

I’m looking as we all are to the better weather as we move into May (hopefully) and exploring more beautiful countryside and beaches that the South West of England offers in abundance.

Here are a few images I’ve grabbed on my travels.

A Perch In The Storm

I found myself on the North Devon coast for a small shoot on Saturday. The weather was less than pleasant but I decided on the journey home to head across the top of Exmoor.
Sometimes harsh weather just suits a location and a damp Exmoor with low hanging cloud seemed to feel strangely perfect.
As I drove I spotted this crow sat on top of this tree and immediately new it had potential to make a great image.
Luckily I managed to pull over and grab my camera which was already set up on the rear seat. To my surprise the crow stayed in place perfectly just sat overlooking the bleak cliffs and coast and I managed to capture 6 or so frames before it got spooked and flew off.
Back in the days of film I would often shoot 1000 ASA Agfa RS film which was renown for it’s impressive grain especially when pushed to 2000 ASA and pushed in processing.
I decided in post to enhance the harsh atmosphere further by adding a copious helping of old school grain although not to the extent of the old Agfa stock!

Beautiful Bray Leino

Today I had a very enjoyable Wednesday morning at a meeting in the slightly grey but beautiful Devon countryside with the rather nice creatives at Bray Leino.

I’ve visited several times over the last 20 years or so and I never fail to be impressed by their stunning offices and it’s rural location.
